My wife and I hired Jason for private pistol training. We scheduled for three hours. We both have had our CPLs for over a year, but always felt we needed more instruction. I recommend Jason for every level of firearm training.
Right before we met, I was concerned that three hours might be overkill. We easily could have done 8 hours! The time just flew by. Jason is a wealth of information, showed us some very cool drills, and he is FUN!
He’s so good, we even excused the fact that he’s a Spartan🤣

If you’re even considering applying for a CPL, or want to learn from a master trainer, Jason Smith is the person for you. He is knowledgeable about guns and gun ownership, the Law and the gravity ensued after a shooting (even in self-defense), danger and conflict situations, and keeping you and your family safe. My current CPL is due for renewal. Because of the COVID pandemic and other priorities, I have not practiced with live-fire as much as I should. So, I decided to take another basic CPL class as means for complying with Michigan law requiring a certain level of legal requirement review and live-fire experience. This class is very good in that we had significant discussion with practice of pistol functionality, proper grip, proper stance, clearing malfunctions, magazine rapid exchange, and so forth not always discussed to any degree in other basic CPL classes. Because our class had been relatively small, the instructor could provide many one-on-one personal tips during the live-fire part of the class. I found all of it to be very helpful.

This is an excellent CPL class. This is my second CPL training in six years. I have learned so much in this class than I ever did in my first one (class taken from one of those big commercial gun stores). The course is very well organized and Jason is very knowledgeable in this area and he's an excellent instructor. He doesn't teach to just get it done and over with, but he's really passionate about what he does and emphasizes on what the CPL is all about and what it's not, laying a good foundation. He assesses where your skill is at and will meet you at your level. I filled in my husband about all the things I learned in Jason's class and he was surprised! He said, that's more than what he learned in his CPL class (he took his class from one of those big commercial gun store classes). My husband also added that the class he was in was so big, some people would ask questions and discussion would go off-tangent, he felt he didn't learn anything. I told him he can get a refresher course from Jason if he wants to and he said he probably will. My husband and I are already talking about taking advance classes with Jason. Would highly recommend this class to family and friends!!!

This was my second CPL class in 10 years the first was with the Sheriff Dept. in Florida. I found this class in Michigan to be more informative and and better ran. In Florida we did not have any hands on time with a weapon (plastic) while in class nor did we take a information recall test at the end of class room time. At the end of the class in Florida we went out to the range and fired two rounds with our weapons. At the Michigan CPL Academy we fired some fifty rounds and were taught many safety aspects of loading and unloading our weapons. The Michigan CPL Academy class was eight hours, the Florida class was three. I would advise anyone who needs a CPL to take the Michigan CPL Academy class just for the fact that it is much more informative than many of the other classes that are out there. I did a lot of research before signing up for this class and I am sure you will find this class to not only teach you the safety aspects of handling a weapon they also go over some of the legal aspects as well. Every one stay safe and stay out of jail!
